I was a trustee of Baghdad
The book talks about my experience as the Mayor of Baghdad during one of the most complex periods in modern Iraq history, after the occupation of Iraq and the fall of the regime in 2003, when I faced enormous challenges in managing the capital, which was suffering from security chaos, widespread destruction, and the collapse of basic services, considering a dilapidated infrastructure.
I fought a daily battle to rebuild and improve the reality of life in Baghdad, despite the political and administrative obstacles that hindered many vital projects. I strove to implement development plans that would contribute to restoring municipal services, but the challenges exceeded the available capabilities.
This book is not just a narration of that experience, but rather a documented testimony to a pivotal stage in the history of Baghdad, reflecting the city's suffering and the efforts I made to try to save it despite all the difficulties.
